When Katinka Kruger’s Mossel Bay flat was damaged by flooding, the scale of the loss was significant. But loss, in the hands of a designer, is also an invitation. Every tile, every cabinet, every length of curtain was reconsidered from first principles. The result is a home that feels like a Garden Route holiday flat – relaxed, luminous and beautifully layered.
Interior designer, Lelanie Snyman, of Rosalinda Ontwerp Pretoria, led the design process. She worked with Katinka and a carefully chosen team of local and South African partners: Morne from Youthinkitwemake custom kitchen and cabinetry, Betel South Africa restored furniture, Mixx Cement for the signature olive green wall finish, and Promac Paints for the seamless epoxy floors. Katinka installed the Mixx Cement herself with her installation team based in Pretoria.
The project brief was simply stated but demanding in practice: create an open, coastal, timeless home from a dark and cluttered starting point. What follows is the room-by-room story of how that happened.
